Professors as Writers: Publishing in the Humanities and Social Sciences

As most humanities and social science faculty know, finding just the right venue for a published work can be tricky. Difficulties can include figuring out how best to deal with publishers, planning your research agenda, or even deciding whether to send a shorter work to a journal now or develop it into a longer book project. At this workshop, two members of the U.Va. community will offer their experiences and advice about dealing with such issues. They will focus on issues relevant to new faculty, although participants with a range of publishing experience are welcome.

Boyd Zenner, Acquisitions Editor at U.Va. Press, will speak about the dos and don'ts
in dealing with publishers.
Amy Ogden, French Department, will talk about her experiences building a research
agenda and publishing both journal articles and a book.

Sponsored by the Excellence in Diversity Fellows Program, a program supporting new U.Va. faculty, and the Professors as Writers Program, both at the Teaching Resource Center.
