Professors as Writers: Responding to the Challenges
of Academic Writing

Announcing a new program for faculty, "Professors as Writers":
Perhaps the greatest professional challenge many faculty members face is their academic writing. Writing is notoriously difficult, and junior faculty, especially, share many concerns about the best ways to approach their writing and succeed at it.

The Professors as Writers program, co-sponsored by the Provost's Office and the Teaching Resource Center, will offer to U.Va. faculty an on-going variety of workshops, presentations, and colloquia focused on various aspects of academic writing and publishing. To begin, we're planning a pair of information-gathering and -sharing meetings open to all faculty: one for colleagues in the sciences and engineering, the other for colleagues in the humanities and social sciences. Please choose the session that seems most appropriate for you. We particularly encourage junior faculty to attend.

Workshop Format:
At this interactive workshop, you will be able to discuss with colleagues the challenges you face as writers. After listening to your concerns, panelists who have successfully written and published in their disciplines will offer their strategies and tips for dealing with these challenges. Your ideas will help us plan relevant future sessions.
