Van Gogh's Other Ear: Teaching Creativity Across the Curriculum

Claude Cookman, Indiana University School of Journalism

In response to several requests for insights on teaching creativity, we have invited Claude Cookman to do an interdisciplinary workshop that will give you brains-on experience. After a theoretical introduction to creativity, those who attend will consider creative problem finding: that is, how can you identify a significant project that you want to work on? This skill, which cuts across all academic disciplines, is useful for teachers and students alike. You will also use brainstorming, thumbnail sketching and other techniques to do creative problem solving, confronting challenges in several disciplines. Finally, you will work on extrapolating your experiences in the workshop to your own courses and classrooms. Sponsored by the University Teaching Fellows Program and the Teaching Resource Center.
