Sequencing Individual And Group Activities To Enhance Deep Learning Barbara Millis, Associate Director for Faculty Development at the US Air Force Academy, Boulder, CO This workshop will help teachers understand how to structure assignments and activities to foster deep learning approaches. Students need to complete assignments outside of classfor which they are accountablethat help them learn new knowledge by connecting it to what they already know. The most effective assignments encourage students to make relevant connections to their own experiences. Because students come to class prepared, class time can be spent productively by having students in pairs or small groups compare their out-of-class products to foster critical thinking and constructive feedback.
