Cooperative Learning And Assessment Karl Smith, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, University of Minnesota When students are learning in groups, how do we assess the quality of their work? This interactive workshop will focus on making assessment meaningful and manageable while building quality into the learning process. Participants will consider useful formats for assigning and assessing cooperative group products and processes, as well as individual students learning: for example, concept tests, exams, base group quizzes, minute papers, mid-term surveys, student management teams. The focus of this workshop is interdisciplinary. Co-author of numerous books on problem-solving and cooperative learning, Karl most recently was on leave at Michigan State University to help implement MSUs Guiding Principle Number Two: Achieve More Active Learning.
