In addition
to the support enabling the TRC to publish this newsletter and funding
for the Teaching Portfolio Workshop noted elsewhere, further gifts have
enabled the Teaching Resource Center to continue or enhance TRC programs
and services:
Harry
E. Teasley, Jr., through his family foundation, provided funding to
support two programs:
- Tomorrow's
Professor Today featured a half-year series of workshops that helped
graduate students make successful transitions from teaching assistant
to independent instructor, designing and teaching their own courses.
- Lunch
meetings for international faculty give colleagues opportunities
to share ideas for working with American students, to compare experiences,
and to strategize approaches to courses.
The Parents
Program has provided a grant to support Writing Workshops,
which improve instructors' ability to help students write better papers.
Administered by the Teaching Resource Center in conjunction with the English
Department's Writing Program, teach three-hour workshop shows instructors
how to comment on student papers, how to motivate
students to improve their writing, and how to grade student writing. Workshops
are generally organized for instructors in individual departments and
are scheduled at the instructors' convenience.
