Miscellaneous Professional Development Documents

During the course of your graduate career, you will have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities which will further your professional development. It's a good idea to record and document these opportunities when appropriate. Below are suggested materials you might collect in this section.

  • curriculum vitae
  • résumé

Research-related items

  • awards, fellowships, grants
  • conference abstracts and posters
  • published articles, papers, chapters, etc.
  • performance evaluations from advisors/employers
  • research proposal for your thesis, dissertation, or future project

Teaching-related items

  • summary of student evaluations and other formal and informal course feedback (e.g., nomination letters for teaching awards written by students, unsolicited emails about the course)
  • sample student assignments, collaborative learning activities, or exams you created
  • samples of graded student work from classes you've taught or TAed

Service-related items

  • advising/mentoring activities
  • community service and volunteer work at the university or in the community
    consulting work
