Tomorrow's Professor Today

Section 2

Faculty Interview: Report Sheet

The faculty interview is your opportunity to get candid feedback from a faculty member of your choosing about what it's like to be a professor on a day-to-day basis - often much different than expected. You can learn about committee work, grant writing or other publishing processes, tenure matters, and many other issues facing today's faculty. The Faculty Interview Report Sheet will help you reflect on the interview. For suggestions and a list of possible questions to ask during the interview, see "Faculty Interview: Things to Consider" and "Faculty Interview: Possible Questions."

In order to maintain confidentiality, please refrain from referring to the faculty member by name in your comments.

Interview Date: ______________________________________

1. What information about teaching/research/service work will be most useful to know in a future academic position?

2. Which question/response did you find most surprising?

3. Based on what you learned from your interview, what do you find most appealing about a future faculty position? Least appealing?
