The
nomination period typically is from mid-December to the first week of
February.
What is
the Seven Society Gradute Fellowship?
The
Seven Society Fellowship for Superb Teaching is an award for TAs who demonstrate
exceptional commitment to their students' learning, knowledge of and passion
for their subject, and creativity in their teaching. The recipient is
awarded a $7,000
fellowship to further his/her graduate studies.
Who can
be nominated?
Any
graduate teaching assistant who has taught at least one full semester
at U.Va. and
who has at least one semester of graduate studies to complete at U.Va.
beyond the
semester of nomination.
Who can
nominate a GTA for this award?
Any
undergraduate student may nominate a superb former graduate teaching assistant
for this award. Students may NOT nominate their current TAs. Students should
not be solicited by any faculty member or graduate student to nominate anyone
for this fellowship.
How do I
nominate someone?
Any
undergraduate student may nominate a superb former graduate teaching assistant.
You must use the on-line nomination form
to submit general information about
your TA as well as answer all the following questions.
- How did
your TA show his or her commitment to students' learning?
- How did
your TA demonstrate substantial knowledge of and passion for the subject
matter?
- How did
your TA creatively engage students in the learning process?
Important:
Every year we receive over 100 nominations for this award. Only substantial nominations that use specific examples are competitive. You need to illustrate in detail why your TA was truly exceptional and convince the selection committee (consisting of four undergraduates and four faculty members) that he/she is deserving of a $7000 award!
