Distinguished Teaching Professorship
This chair recognizes an eminent scholar for outstanding and enduring excellence in the teaching of undergraduates.
Tenured, full-time faculty at the associate or full professor rank, who teach undergraduate courses. Previous winners of an award administered by the Teaching Awards Committee within the last five years are ineligible for an Open Award.
This two-year Chair appointment normally includes an additional 2/9ths salary (two additional months plus fringes), together with the annual $2,000 research fund made available by the University to chair holders. Any winner who currently holds another chair is not eligible for the Cavaliers’ Distinguished Professorship research funds.
Cavaliers' Distinguished Teaching Professors are expected to work with the Teaching Resource Center during the two-year period of the Chair (and preferably thereafter) to help enhance teaching at the University. They are also requested to consider teaching a University Seminar (USEM) at least once while holding the Chair.
The Cavaliers' Distinguished Teaching Professorship was established in 1991. Normally one Cavaliers' DTP is selected each year for a two-year term.
